Here are all the recent updates about visiting the United States. We have compiled a summary of the most recent notifications because the pandemic continuously changes the travel restrictions imposed by the US authorities.
Several people’s plans to visit the US in the next two years have been uncertain due to the many travel restrictions implemented as the US manages the COVID-19 outbreak.
US officials have indicated that they are making every effort to halt the virus’s transmission, which has already significantly impacted immigration. However, keeping up with these travel regulations is crucial to avoid being turned away.
United States Travel Restriction Updates
As of November 2022 – Travelers will no longer require a COVID examination to enter the US.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will no longer need tourists to prove negative for COVID-19 upon visiting the US.
Visitor Vaccination Requirements as of January 2022
As of January 22, all foreign visitors, including Canadians, must have a complete COVID-19 vaccination to cross the border at land entry points and ferry terminals. The rule is in effect at ferry terminals and ground entry points along the US-Mexico and US-Canada borders.
December 2021 – New Travel Restriction Due to Omicron
President Biden called for immediate travel bans for South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Malawi the previous week but did not reveal how long the prohibitions would remain in position.
Whether they have received any vaccinations, all air travellers must get a negative COVID-19 test within 24 hours of their flight. However, the CDC is operating with US officials to change the global testing order for travels as more data arrives on the Omicron variant.
September 2021 – Border Reopens to Fully-Vaccinated Travelers
Beginning on November 8, 2021, any passengers who have received all required vaccinations will be permitted to enter the US by land or air.
Air travellers will still need to present a pre-departure negative COVID-19 test done within three days of flying the airline and show confirmation of vaccination before entry. However, the country’s land border and ferry ports will no longer require a COVID-19 test result in the negative range to be admitted.
US/Canada Border Updates
September 2021 – the US Extends Land Border Travel Restrictions
Authorities from the White House claim that the country has extended its ban on non-essential travel across its land border with Canada and Mexico until at least October 21.
These limitations were initially implemented in March 2020 and renewed each month. Unlike Canada, which allowed fully vaccinated US travellers to enter its borders by land and air starting in August. Citizens of the US travelling to Mexico or Canada are exempt from the closure.
August 2021 – the US Extends Border Restrictions for Canadians Another 30 Days
Because of the spike in COVID-19 delta variant cases, the US Department of Homeland Security has decided to prolong border restrictions until September 21, 2021.
