Are you being sponsored to come to the U.S., or are you supporting a friend or family member to come? Here’s how to create an invitation letter to make a positive impression on the immigration officer.

A U.S. citizen or temporary resident can write a formal letter of invitation to invite an overseas friend or relative a brother or sister—to their residence. However, they must attest that they can accommodate the visitor and assure they will return home by the end of their trip.

This letter is optional, and the acquisition of one does not assure visa approval for the applicant. The applicant must go through the U.S. visa application process and meet the other requirements for a U.S. visa.

These requirements include having a source of support, demonstrating close ties to their country of origin, etc., to be given a guest visa. Additionally, the applicant must show that they will use the visa appropriately.

What to Include in Your Invitation Letter

You must include the recipient’s entire address and your own, for instance, using the format below. Additionally, you ought to have the following:

  • The purpose of the trip, together with the locations that you will visit
  • The length of the visitor’s stay with you or the accommodations you are arranging for them
  • If you’ll be paying the visitor’s expenditures while in the U.S., and if so, how much?
  • If you’ll pay for the person’s travel to and from the United States

To guarantee that the application goes well, don’t forget to include every aspect of the visit.

Supporting Documents for a B-2 Visa Application

It may be more challenging for travellers to show significant ties to their home country if they are unemployed, do not own property, or have few capital assets. Immigration authorities worry that these people will attempt to stay in the country under these situations. A Declaration of Financial Support can assist in dismissing this uncertainty.

The Declaration of Financial Support, also known as Form I-134, certifies that someone in the United States is prepared to assume financial responsibility for you. Typically, you do not require a Form I-134 if you can demonstrate that you are economically secure or employed in your native country.

Form I-134 is the U.S. government’s assurance that it will step in and help you if you cannot cover your expenditures while in the country.

Instead of relying only on the sponsor’s letter or guarantees, B-2 visa applicants must meet the requirements for the guest visa based solely on their situation. A consular officer decides whether or not the petitioner is eligible for a visa based on the application’s qualities and the interview results.
