Advice for obtaining a green card
Every year, the U.S. conducts a Green Card lottery.
The U.S. holds a lottery to encourage diversity. Anyone from an eligible country has a chance to obtain a green card through the Diversity Visa Lottery (often known as the “Green Card Lottery”).
To maintain the diversity of immigrants in the United States diversity visa lottery program selects 50,000 immigrants each year. Below are some of the other options.
1. Get a U.S. employer to recommend you.
Keeping your employer happy can help you get a green card if you are already in the country and employed there on work or a temporary visa. They must submit Form 1-140, Immigrant Appeal for Alien Employee, and labour certification.
In addition, you must be in management or equivalent positions and have a degree or employment for which no other qualified Americans are available.
2. Invest in the U.S.
If you spend between $500,000 and $1 million, hire 10 people, or grow an existing company by at minimum 40%. In addition, investment in the U.S. is an excellent option to earn a green card because it typically only takes 22 to 26 months to gain legal residency under the program, as opposed to many years for other visa categories.
3. Be related to a U.S. citizen
Anyone connected to an American citizen falls under several unique categories. In addition, there are further categories, such as children of foreign diplomats born in the United States or widows and widowers of Americans. Stepparents and stepchildren are also eligible. Gay and lesbian couples may also apply.
4. Working in the medical industry
An employment offer from a hospital or medical facility for a nurse, surgeon, physical therapist, etc., often expedites getting a green card. So, working in the medical field can certainly set you at an advantage and help you obtain your visa faster than other visa categories.
5. The potential to succeed in business, academics, the arts, or science.
You might be eligible to be considered an Extraordinary Alien. You must meet a minimum of three requirements. However, you will require as many letters of recommendation as possible, especially from highly regarded people, such as CEOs, college professors, co-workers, department heads, etc.
6. Keep away from trouble
Nothing you do should irritate the authorities. You will be listed with the Department of Homeland Security, which will notify you if your application for a green card will be delayed or denied. So, being out of trouble helps you to promote a clean image of yourself in front of authorities.
